The role of modularity is important in the developmental repatterning in evolutionary development. Organisms are composed of modules which are units of elements. Developmental modules serve as building blocks for evolution. They can been seen in heterotopy, heterochrony, heterometry, loss of modules and redeployment of modules. Here we will see each of these modules explained with examples to help us understand why modularity is of a key importance in evolutionary development.
Heterotopy is the change in trait expression by spatial shifts. An example would be the environmental influence on the
