I do most of the seven deadly sins of speaking in my daily life. I gossip with my friends about other people that we do not like. I judge people, though I keep it to myself. I am quite negative, especially when the situation is so hopeless, but I like to think that I am just realistic. Lying and making excuses come hand in hand, especially when I do not want to deal with other people. I need to overcome these things for me to be able to communicate with other people better. To overcome these, I must be honest. I must say what is on my mind, but I should be sensitive about other people’s feelings. What I say must be authentic, so that people will believe what I say, without breaking their trust that they placed on my words. I must have integrity. I should do as I say. I must love, because when you love it is hard to judge, to lie and to make excuses. I also cannot maximize the use of my toolbox. My register is high, making it more challenging for me to speak because of people’s tendency to listen to speakers with a lower voice. While my prosody, timbre, pitch and volume are quite well, my pace and are my main problems when speaking. I speak in a fast manner when I’m nervous, which makes it hard to understand my point. People who are in the marketing and tourism sector needs to develop the skill to speak that people want to listen because it will be an advantage when it comes to persuading people to buy a certain product or to avail a certain service. People in the religious sector, especially the preachers and the volunteers, need the skill of effective speaking so that people would be persuaded to do well and to help the needy.
