The integrity section talks about trust and life choices. Then the commitment section talks about new challenges and staying the course. Finally, it’s respect section that I enjoyed the most. It talks about self-respect, mutual respect and self-esteem. To respect something is to accept it and of course everyone wants to be accepted. Self respect is being able to see yourself in a positive way. An example used for self respect is “I like myself. I have qualities and personal traits that I respect in myself and others, such as strength of character, integrity, dedication, generosity and steadfastness” (5). Mutual respect is a vital key to success in your career and personal life. However, you need to have self respect first. An example of mutual respect is “I have the confidence to live authentically and to recognize and appreciate the positive qualities of others. In this chapter, section one talks about communication basics. It includes body language, speaking, and listening. I really enjoyed reading about listening. Listening is something I feel a lot of people lack, and it’s really important. Reality is, listening is just as important to communication as speaking. I really liked it because it’s something that’s often overlooked. Another section talked about in this chapter is professional communication. In this section it discusses professional etiquette and communication challenges. From this section I really liked reading the communication challenges. In a salon, as in most places, interpersonal conflicts can happen at any time. A salon is a highly personalized environment with creative, energetic staff and highly diverse clientele. When people are stressed, distracted, pressed for time or faced with something unexpected, it’s not unusual for conflicts to arise. The chart provided in this section is very helpful. It explains details about general guidelines for handling communication challenges. The guidelines include “stay in
