Well S.E Hinton wrote the outsiders; A novel describing the relationship between two groups, “Greasers”, “Socs.” In the 60s Hinton experienced a lot of discrimination in her hometown of Tulsa Oklahoma. In S.E Hinton’s The Outsiders, One theme that was covered in this book is appearance can be deceiving. After Ponyboy describes Soc girls, he shares, “But most looked at us like we were dirt--gave us the same look that the Socs did when they came by in their Mustangs and Corvairs and yelled ‘Grease!’ at us” (Hinton 15). From this quotation, Ponyboy is sharing that since he is a greaser, he’s treated differently and looked at differently for not having enough money and fancy clothes. The greasers are stereotyped as being “dirty” and “hood” because of the social class they are in.…

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a very different book. This is because it is written from an “outsider’s” perspective. However, we didn’t get to see much of the Soc’s point of view. Cherry says in the book that life for an “insider” isn’t as great as it looks to the Greasers. Bob As the gang and I were racing down the street in my blue Mustang, I violently jerked the steering wheel away from a mailbox.…

The movie, “The Outsiders” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by S.E. Hilton and Kathleen Rowell, produced in the year 1983 was moderately entertaining. “The Outsiders” is about a group of boys who live in Oklahoma, but when Johnny, a Greaser, kills Bob, a Soc, things started to get out of hand for the boys. “The Outsiders” had a lot of scenes where the actors may have had a hard time acting, like Dally’s death. They did an excellent job at letting you know which boy was who in the group. Like Dally for example, I could tell that he was more of the troublemaker and hard hearted of the group.…

The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton is a novel that is specifically written to target teenagers, adolescents and young adults. It can therefore be stated that the novel is a form of Young Adult Literature as it meets many of the characteristics required to define this type of writing. The two characteristics that will be spoken about in this essay is firstly, the novel is written in the first person of a fourteen year old, making “Ponyboy” the protagonist; and secondly, there is an absence of adult figures. “It seemed funny to me that the sunsets she saw from her patio and, the one I saw from the back steps was the same one.” (Hinton, 1967:35).…
