Since the beginning of the world’s earliest scientists, animals have been used for testing. Though most people probably do not know, infamous scientists such as Aristotle and Erasistratus used live animals to test various experiments, and since then the testing has not stopped. “About 20 million animals are experimented on and killed annually, three-fourths for medical purposes and the rest to test various products. An estimated eight million are used in painful experiments. Reports show that at least 10 percent of these animals do not receive painkillers” (SCU.edu). People just do not know any better and as stated above, early scientists such as Aristotle and a few others who are still highly admired by society used live animals for testing when conducting various research experiments. This logically and undoubtedly has a huge impact on the beliefs of pro-animal testing believers.
Another cause of animal testing has resulted from researchers defending their actions by saying if animals were not used for testing, then there would be no other choice but to test on humans. When told this, a large portion of the population believes this because they are not aware of the solutions made possible in today’s society. When testing on humans is mentioned, negative thoughts come to one 's mind when in fact the way that humans would be tested on just have not been thoroughly explained.
An important relevant fact to the situation is most animals don’t react the same as humans do to a lot of drugs and chemicals being tested. A lot of people have been led to believe that the DNA in people and the DNA in the animals being tested are the same. Yes the DNA is similar, but slight differences can cause completely diverse results and reactions to the test at
