The population is 21,282 people. The median household income below 30,000. Many locals aspire to go to college and get an education. There are no promising careers in Bertie. Many people leave and never come back. That does harm to the county as well. Only a select few successful entrepreneurs make their return to try and help their homeland. That is almost all that is going on as far as revenue. The county should be reconstructed and consider new ideas. One of the main issues of the county is that evolution isn’t in their vision. There are many small businesses. The unemployment rate is nearly 10 percent. In order to be successful, an individual has to find a career outside of the county or gain experience to be on the county’s board. Those chances are very slim. Finances are handled very unwisely. A new high school was built with a budget of 1 million last year. The county could have invested into different opportunities to generate revenue instead of having to figure out how the new school is going to be maintained
