In this paper I am going to argue that Judith Jarvis Thomson is correct when she argues that abortion is not unjust killing and is permissible. Thomson’s argument is based on a woman’s right to decide to have an abortion on the notion that a fetus is regarded as a person from the time of conception. Thomson reaches her final conclusion that abortion is not unjust killing by countering claims from anti-abortionists, such as Don Marquis, and by defining key terms anti-abortionists commonly use in their arguments. I will first begin by briefly introducing Don Marquis’s view regarding abortion. Marquis argues that it is wrong to kill a fetus because it would deprive it of having a “future like ours”, to which he further defines as the future…

In “A Healthy Obsession,” Collin Palmer, a high school sophomore, concludes that obsession over celebrities are beneficial to everyday people . He argues that the obsession creates no harm, bond friendship, and form a more confident self. Palmer also attempts to convince the reader that being obsessed with celebrities is a “healthy escape from our boring lives.” Although Collin Palmer is valid in several points, he fails to realize the true danger in being obsessed with celebrities. Two perturbed reporters, Erin Cunningham and Serena Elavia both concur on how media such as photography and reality television can affect the health and well being of not only young girls and women, but the famous reality stars people religiously watch today. Cunningham and Elavia are able to agree and concentrate on three key points: views from the general public, poor behavior of the people behind the lens, and the potential health issues. Matlin contemplated the various obstacles that could possibly interfere in his daughters way for her to grow up and become like any other father would want “sustainably happy woman”.…
Vincent M. DeGrandpré stated that, “...the demand for celebrity images and information is driven in large part by society’s communication needs and by our respective need to forge personal identity.” (Source C). This is from a less negative perspective, but it still shows how celebrities need to accept that their open status prevents them from having a private life. Celebrities have become a connecting force in society for people to connect about similar interests and when a celebrity’s image is posted for the public to see, it violates their privacy. Celebrities must accept that when they affect social change due to their lives, private and open, that there are prices that have to be paid such as a private life.…
