Essay On Why Marijuana Should Be Legal

In discussions of drugs and alcohol, one controversial issue has been marijuana and whether it should be legal. On one hand, many Americans claim it is illegal for a reason. Others say that it is no different than alcohol. In my view, marijuana should be legal because it is not as bad as people believe it to be, it is like a form of alcohol, and so many people do it anyway. It is often said that marijuana is a “gateway” drug. Many Americans tend to believe that if you smoke marijuana then you will start doing other drugs. While this is true for some people, it is no different than saying that if you drink alcohol one time you become an alcoholic. Neither of these are true. It is ultimately a choice, like everything else in life. You would think that marijuana could kill you, but it is in fact nearly impossible to overdose on marijuana. Many Americans use alcohol as a form of stress relief or use it to help with depression or other things going on in their life. All I would like to point out is that marijuana is essentially the same. It can and has been used as medication for certain things. It can put you in a good mood and make the rest of your day better. Many people use it as a motivator to get through something they want to do. On top of all of this it could help the economy. I’ve always believed that one of the reasons that marijuana isn’t legal is because the government would have a really hard time taxing it. They can control alcohol and the production of it, but it would be nearly impossible to regulate marijuana. Anybody can get their hands on marijuana very easily. You could grow it without anyone knowing. I’m not saying that is the only reason it isn’t legal, but it seems like that could have a very strong effect on
