In the play Macbeth, two of the main characters had goals that were strongly shown, but the purposes behind these goals were not clear whatsoever. It seemed that Macbeth wanted to be king just to be King, seeing as previous to being a king he was already a well respected war general and thane of two areas. Also, he becomes obsessed with the idea of being king without knowing the implications and responsibilities it comes with. Macbeth often deemed it necessary to murder off people in this play to get what he wanted, even though it would usually just make things messier, causing him to murder more people. After “needing” to murder people various Macbeth goes from being extremely hesitant and regretful in murdering someone to something that he can easily brush off, which I believe was a keen example of his identity and morals changing on the way to him becoming king and trying to get a clean slate.
