It’s because growing up everyone was forced to read and listen and read some more. Without the freedom of choosing your own books and authors people will then feel locked up in a story that they cannot connect with. This passage should be shouted from the rooftops with everyone listening below. Some kids actually sit back and think it would be a better option to die than be forced into reading excerpts and poems from people who were born over 500 years ago. Some may say, in order to build the future we need to know the past, which does make sense, but without being creative and starting or even building new things, the past will keep repeating itself.
