The setting of Mama Mia is initially a laid back island, off the coast of Greece. As the audience is taken through the performance they soon realize that Mama Mia is anything but a relaxing show. A whirl wind of events unfolds and at times the dialogue is spoken too quickly, making it hard to hear and understand what the character said. The use of gestures and costumes as well as the interaction between characters helped to intrigue the audience and keep your attention throughout the show in its entirety. The non-stop humor left the audience waiting in suspense for the next gesture or interaction. The age of the actors playing the characters fit nicely with the story line and furthered the audiences understanding of the plot, setting, and time frame. Sophie, Sky and their friends were all early 20 year olds, while Dona, her friends and Bill, Harry and Sam were all in their 40’s and 50’s fitting in well with the scenes that unfold. Watching Dona and her friend’s flashback to past times and the “good old days” is something each member of the audience can relate to. These flash backs drew the audience in to having a personal experience in the show. The use of blocking was almost un-noticeable in the show. Each character was in the appropriate place for the lighting and positioned well for the events of the situation that might occur. The pace was a bit fast at times, rushed, yet it wasn’t overly noticeable and the play tends to run that way throughout. Pauses were used well to allow the audience a chance to process and laugh without missing the next
