Maquoketa High School Narrative

Maquoketa, upon my initial impression when I moved here in 2012, was a small quiet town and although that is something that I now I know it is also so much more. I was in middle-school when I first came but it was in high school that I truly grew to appreciate the wonderful community. My first year of high school was certainly unnerving, although I had previously attended an elementary and middle school that were more than double its size it still held an allure of suspense over what may soon come. My freshman year was admittedly, uneventful, however I did join a club that would later grow to be one of my greatest passions, C.A.G.E. the drama club here at Maquoketa High School. I was enjoying my life and enjoying high school, however things were not destined to stay this way. My sophomore year saw a downward spiral of my mental health, what I originally simply chalked up to being simply a, “moody …show more content…
I kept my need for artistic expression fulfilled through my participation in plays and speech competitions all four years of high school. I even made a decision to join choir my senior year and made it into chamber choir. My high school life had been a roller coaster of emotion, through the steep hills of adversity, I found assistance in getting through those hills through my friends and teachers, during the twists and turns I was still safely held together by the tight-knit community at Maquoketa High School, and now as my roller coaster is just about to stop at the station for me to depart, I can’t believe how scared I was to ride it originally as I enjoyed it more than I could ever imagine. Now I must make my way to the next roller coaster in my life, this one however is much larger and scary but I know that Maquoketa High School has prepared me for

Even though there are people I don’t get along with and it’s been quite the roller coaster of emotions, there’s nothing else in the world I would want to do more at this moment. So now, with only three shows left, I find myself realizing what a good move changing schools was, and that sticking out driving to Puyallup from February to June just for school from here lead to this, and that’s okay. I had to endure basically that hell of a school, because it was leading me to this, this school, these people, this is what I needed. Not people who hated me and pulled me down with them, not ones who sided with people who spread lies about me.…

Even though everyone who goes to Shakopee High School knows about this situation, they do not know how much it has significantly affected my life. My life changed last year in so many ways. In some ways this has given me more opportunities, but in most cases this event has negatively changed everything around me. Worst of all it has made me lose many friends, given me a bad reputation, and has made everyone think that I am someone that I am not. People I had never met did not like me, discriminated against me in some situations; but on the other hand, it has showed me who my real friends are because they continued to persevere by my side and stuck with me through all of the tough times.…

I walked briskly on a summer morning on the sidewalk to my college campus, Yale! I had been accepted in the middle of my Canby high school days because of my excellent grades, leadership skills, and my confidence in speeches. One other person had been accepted in my grade at that time named Tanya, but rumor has it that her father works in the staff and influenced the principal's decision with some ‘green paper’. Ever since 5th grade, she has taken my ideas into her projects, wowing the teachers and getting perfect grades. One time in middle school I caught her fumbling through my locker searching through my binder to find my lab notes during lunch.…

As I walked through the front doors of Allentown Central Catholic High School, I felt a sudden rush of panic. Everything I had once seen and had once been familiar with in middle school quickly vanished into thin air. I was terrified, not because I thought I was going to get lost, but because I knew that every little quiz I took, every little paper I wrote, and every exam I labored over would now count toward my ultimate goal of getting into a prestigious university. I wasn’t scared of new faces, but rather new beginnings and experiences.…

I can recall the days of arriving at school just as the bell rung. Morning prayers started at 8:05 on the dot every day. A loud screech-voiced over the P.A system welcoming students to a brand new day of high school. I would always hurry to the back of class not trying to grab the attention of my teachers. But they would always single me out and tell me to go grab a pass.…

I was raised on the border between three small towns just south of San Antonio. In my early childhood, I was convinced that my life would mirror that of my parents: graduation, marriage, and children. That sounded like a fine idea to me. Though as I grew bigger, so did my ambitions. Stuck in a world where the arts was represented mostly by a tiny high school marching band, I found a love for music and theatre.…

It had been a few weeks since your parents died in a tragic plane crash, though you didn’t feel all that sad. Of course, you were slightly upset, but it wasn’t that bad. Your parents had never really built an emotional bond with you. They were more like dictators, they forced you to be the three P’s: posh, proper, and polite. When you wanted to play outside with the other kids, they shook their head in distaste, your mother telling you that’s not what ladies do.…

Descriptive Essay Nearly everyone had a high school experience, and many people have some kind of college experience. People who experienced both of these know how overwhelming the transition from high school to college can be at first. Dual enrollment is a great example of attending public high school and a community college at the same time and yet finding it to be a confusing contrast. For two places that have a similar purpose, which is to educate, the experience one will have at both places is far more different than one would expect.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…
