Gun control has been an issue for years now and with recent events, it’s time for a change. Guns are a major problem in our society. Lately, there has been school and mass shootings like the Umpqua Community College shooting in Roseburg, Oregon and the mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. The issue with gun control will be that some people think there should be better gun control laws, like myself, and there are people who feel as if theirit shouldn’t be a gun control law because we as citizens of America, have the right to bear arms. If we had better gun control, there wouldn’t be a lot of unintentional children deaths, school and mass shootings, illegal guns, or gun violence. We live in a world where gun violence takes place every day. Guns shouldn’t be easy to purchase and there should be stricter laws for guns such as making the background check system longer than 3 to 5 days like it is now for anyone who wants to purchase a gun, create a task force that will only focus on stopping the sale of illegal guns and getting illegal guns off the streets, and make it mandatory for parents who have children to attend a class if they want to purchase a gun and

People own guns for their protection, hunting, and for their hobby. One of the most common reasons people purchase a gun is for their protection. Owning a gun gives a person a sense of security. With crime and gun violence increasing daily, many people purchase a gun for the protection of themselves and their families. “The problem is not with guns, but with those who are reckless or wield them for unlawful purposes (Bijlefeld 1997).” Guns will never be the problem; it’s the person holding the gun that you have to worry about.
