Reflection On Writing Progress

Reflection on Writing Progress This semester I have seen myself grow a lot as a writer. In the beginning of the year I did not completely understand the way sentences worked. Such as the difference between compound and complex sentences. Which now I feel like I have grown in the sentence form and structure. Also, the vocabulary that I have learned over this semester has begun to help me in my everyday usage. While speaking to my younger sister, I try to experiment with the new words because it makes me feel smarter. I have also begun searching up new words online while writing to enhance my vocabulary. Romeo and Juliet was an interesting book, and a cool book to write about. The essay I wrote on the Capulet Nurse was a piece that

This semester I feel that I have somewhat improved as a writer. The first thing from this class that has helped me was the peer reviews. They have decreased the nervousness that I used to feel when I would ask people to help and for suggestions. The second thing that impacted me as a writer was the discussion post about different writing styles and how different people had different processes. The one that impacted me the most was the video about David Sedaris.…

For eighteen years, I have roamed this earth, and for thirteen of those years I have been able to harness my craft in writing. As I look back on those times, I see how much I have improved. I learned that I despised word count essays and loved creative writing assignments. My literacy journey began in kindergarten where they taught us how to write out the alphabet, my name, and simple sentences. I don’t remember everything that about my time in kindergarten, but I do remember how frustrated I was trying to write out my name.…

Over the Semester my writing has improved immensely in comparison to my previous years of literature. Before ninth grade, I would use an abounding amount of simple words like “very” or “because”. In ninth grade on the other hand I have started to and continue to use words and phrases like “exceedingly” and “due to the fact.” This presents improvement in my writing because using words like exceedingly is evidence that the writer is a higher level writer due to the fact that it is a complex word. Another example of advancement in my writing is the amount of transitions I put in my writing.…

I am still not that good at it, but I noticed that I started thinking more about the choices I make when I write. For example, I began my summary of Thonney’s “Teaching the Conventions of Academic Discourse” with a point of view she disagrees: “Thonney points out that some scholars deny the idea that there are set rules to academic writing.” I thought this would be more effective than talking about her ideas, then bringing up the opposing opinion, and then coming back to Thonney’s thoughts again. I wanted the paragraph to have a strong structure because that way it is more effective and easier to understand. This is definitely an improvement.…

My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. In reading, I would just read instead of looking up the difficult word or using context clues to figure out what the word means. Now during my reading I annotate and look up unknown vocabulary words. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
