Cognitive Training, also known as Brain Training, is the ability to exercise the brain, like you exercise your body. If a person was to continually conduct activities that focus on cognitive functioning regularly, increases the capacity of cognitive reserve. Cognitive Reserve is a reserve that one receives from life experiences such as educational and occupational skills which allow the brain to expand with knowledge (Scarmeas & Stern, 2003). By using cognitive training, one is …show more content…
They both had strong computerised tests that the participants were tested on; a large number of participants that were contracted to participate; a well written method and task design. Limitations include that the study didn’t go for long enough time period; and the study limited the interpretation of the data.
The implications of the studies show that even with the best scientific experiments that they do not always have the desired outcome. The first study participants had no cognitive improvement or decline whereas the second study had an improvement. This difference could be due to the difference in the areas of the brain in which the studies were focussed on.
To conclude, cognitive brain training is a useful tool that can help in many different areas of study. Although the researchers need to refine their experiments when it comes to the long-term areas of the brain as it takes a lot more training than the short term memory for example. Overall these are both excellent studies that could do with some
