Orenthal James "O.J" Simpson couldn't have been the murder. The whole case was chaos. There is no way he could have killed Nicole Brown, and her friend (Ron Goldman). The racial tensions in LA made many people believe the police were out to get black people, this damaged the jury’s ability to listen to evidence in a fair and open minded way. OJ’s flamboyant and fun personality also clouded the Jury’s ability to analyze evidence fairly. I believe there were too many problems going on at the same time that caused the trial to get out of hand including the way that the Judge handled the media. Each one of these things which should not have affected the Jurys decision if they followed the law and the Jurys instructions, but in a trail anything can happen with a Jury. It was the overwhelming amount of evidence and events that makes me believe there is sufficient evidence to believe he has committed the…

Not sure if this is historical event or not, although the O.J. Simpson case comes to mind when thinking of an influence of modern American criminal justice system. The trial became an entertainment event like in the trial of Casey Anthony. Because of the news media and the way the police handle the evidence, this trail played out like a Life Time movie. ‘Media event’ is a term first coined by Daniel Dayan and Elihu Katz with regard to the festive viewing of television. A media event consists of three levels—syntactics (the interruption of the normal routines), semantics (the asserted meaning of the event) and pragmatics (the response of a committed audience). (Dayan and Katz 1992, p. 14) These occasions are preplanned, promoted and presented live to the viewers (Dayan and Katz 1992, pp. 5-7) which thus create a disruption of dailiness including the interruption of the broadcasting routine and the suspension of our sense of flow of everyday life. The court decision to acquit former NFL star O.J. Simpson of murder will forever be regarded as an example of how the we as Americans must trust the process of the legal system that we abide by. Guilt or innocence in the commission of a crime must be proved without a reasonable doubt, no matter the circumstances or evidence. Despite the extravagant evidence that implicated O.J. Simpson to the murder, the prosecution failed to establish in the minds of the jury that he committed the crime. The defense was able to shift the focus off the damaging evidence of the crime, and more towards the acquisition of that evidence, the ill-treatment of the crime scene, and the history of the Los Angeles Police Department in regards to treatment of minority groups. It can be said that the celebrity status of this case greatly influenced the verdict, as well as the circumstances that led up to that decision.…
