Sometimes a country can produce a great achievement without being aware of it. For years it may contain a major talent, a precious jewel, and not recognize how great the talent and how precious the possession is. That could happen in the past and perhaps it is happening today somewhere; we will know only later. Vincent van Gogh was such a talent. He left a precious heritage for us all-his paintings. More than a century has passed since he gave our world one of his masterpieces, The Starry Night. He painted it in Saint Remy, France in June 1889. Gogh, as every other artist, is a product of his time. A time when the style of neo-impressionism flourished and the primary medium used was canvas on oil. The Starry Night follows that trend by being a canvas on oil painting with a typical size 29 by 36 inches.
I feel highly gratified to have seen this famous painting in person at Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan. Today this work of Van Gogh is receiving the great attention the artist never enjoyed in his short life. The Starry Night at a cost of $100 million is worth a fortune. He would probably not have known what to do with all the attention. Unfortunately, recognition and attention came way too late for him. This genius

While drawing this masterpiece, Van Gogh reached unprecedented heights in the depiction of a night sky. Carefully observing the painting, we can most certainly say that reproducing reality was not what he set out to do. We can admire the use of two dominant colors: blue and yellow. The night is predominantly depicted in blue, a color that can be used both light dark shades without loosing its intensity. Throughout our lives, we encounter many people, groups and ideas who leave a sort of impression on us, both positive and negative. Similarly, in art history there have been multiple preceding artist movements like the impressionists, who have impacted artists that were a part of other subsequent movements, like the fauvists or expressionists. The similarities between Maurice de Vlaminck's "Chatou Bridge" (1907) and Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night" (1889) reflect some impressionism qualities that have positively influenced Vlaminck when composing this fauvist painting. Vlaminck reinforces this notion when he declares "I love van Gogh more than my own father", after visiting one of van Gogh's exhibitions in 1901. Maurice de Vlaminck was…

“Every art should become science, and every science should become art,” (Heinrich von Schlegel). I think that this quote relates to comparing art and considering that comparing art is a science. All the colors that the artists used on both of the paintings were both different than each other. The Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo de Vinci didn’t have incredibly countless colors compared to Starry Night which was painted by Vincent van Gogh. Gogh’s Starry Night used mostly blue with hints of yellow, green and white, while the Mona Lisa used mostly brown with just a slight fragment of other colors in the background.…

Introduction This week digital field trip was a review of the artist Vincent Van Gogh. The painting of choice that was inspiring by Van Gogh is called The Starry Night painted in 1889. Content Vincent van Gogh painted Starry Night in 1889 during his stay at the asylum and used vivid colors for expression. Great job at evaluating on The Starry Night, by Vincent van Gogh. I agree with you that this artwork is more on Dionysian, as I have replied back to another post previously on the same artwork. I think that this artwork is more of a Dionysian because when looking at this artwork I did not need to think much, but instead I have admire its true form of art taking in its asthetic value. Compared to my artwork that I have chosen to write about it was clearly an Apollonian apporach to the artwork because Leonardo uses mathematic and theories from another work to create his drawing. I found it interesting that Vincent was mentally ill, I for one have never read about that.…
