Describe and explain the reasons for testing new drugs. |

1: The drugs are tested using computer models and human cells grown in the laboratory. 2: Giving a known amount of the substance to the animals, then monitoring them carefully for any side-effects. 3: They are tested on volunteers. Then are tested on people with the illness to ensure they are safe and that they work. |

Explain the flaws in the original development of thalidomide. |
Found to damage the development of unborn babies, it mainly effected the arms or legs of the babies being very short or incompletely formed. |
