what is First Aid?
the emergency care given to sick or injured people, providing temporary assistance or treatment until medical help is available
what are the first 3 tasks?
* Maintain Breathing
* Stop Bleeding
* Prevent or Reduce Shock
what is the order of treatment?
* Restore Breathing
* Stop Bleeding
* Treat for Shock
what are the General Rules of First Aid?
* keep the victim stationary
* place on side if victim may choke on blood or vomit
* place on back if victim has a chest injury or impaired breathing
* Don't move victim more than necessay
* Don't let the victim see the wound
* Don't touch wounds or burns, unless sterile or absolutely needed
* Don't give an unconcious person any sold or liquid by mouth
* Don't re-align a broken bone
* when moving keep the victim feet first
* maintiain the persons body tempurature
what is CPR?

what are the steps to CPR?
* clear the victims mouth
* place one hand under nack, and one on the forehead, pinch nose shut and tilt head back to open airway
* take a deep breath and give 1 breath
* allow them to exhale
* check to see if breathing on their own
*if not then give 4 quick breaths
*still not give 1 breath every 5seconds (12-15 per minute)
what are the ways to stop bleeding?
*Direct Pressure- pressure to the wound
*Pressure Point- pressure to an artery or vein
*Tourniquet- constricting band to cut off blood supply
(use only as a last resort, aplly above/close to the wound, dont loosen it, mark the victims forehead or tage with a "T")
