What is the purpose of the P2.5 valve?
It bleeds extra air off the engine to reduce back pressure and prevent compressor stalls during starting.
What does the the condition lever do?
Controls the fuel to the fuel control unit and sets the idle of the engine of the engine(58%-70%).
What does N1 and N2 refer to?
Engine turbines are split with no connection between them. N1 is the engine compressor/gas turbine side.
N2 is the other side of the other turbine that is connected to the gear reduction section.
What does the Fuel Control Unit do?
Measures proper fuel flow for all modes of engine operation. It compares N1 speed with the power lever setting and regulates the engine nozzls.
How many engine driven fuel pumps are there on each engine.
2-a low pressure (45psi) pump that provides cooling and lubrication to the (850psi) high pressure pump.
What does the FUEL PRESSURE light tell you?
RED Tells you that there is less than 10 psi detected between the LOW press pump and the HIGH press pump.
What do you do if the the FUEL PRESSURE light comes on?
Turn on Standby boost pumps ON. If light does not go out, contact maintenance and the high pressure pump is limited to 10 cumulative hours.
If turning on the engine boost pump extinguishes the FUEL PRESSURE light, is your problem over?
No, The engine driven fuel pump shares a common shaft with the oil scavenge pump. look for signs of oil temp and pressure irregularities. You may have to secure the engine.
What is the power source for the engine gauges?
ITT -self generating
Torque -AC
Prop -DC
N1 -self generating
Fuel flow-Tripple Fed
Oil Press-Tripple Fed
Oil Temp -Tripple Fed
What are two parameters which limit engine power?
Temp and Torque,
High density altitude: you are Temp limited
Low density altitude: you are Torque limited.
What is max avail torque?
3,400 lbs
What controls prop pitch?
Large spring drives pitch to FEATHER. Oil pressure drives prop to a flat pitch.
What is the normal RPM range for the props?
1400-1700 RPM
What protection do you have from a runaway prop?
-Normal prop governor should limit to 1700 RPM
-Overspeed Gov. limits to 104%
-Fuel topping Gov. limits to 106% of what is selected
Explain the Autofeather system.
A means of dumping fuel from the prop dome automatically.
The system is armed when:
-The Prop Autofeather switch is armed.
-Power levers are 85%-90% N1
-Torque above 525 ft lbs.
When armed, both green AUTOFEATHER lights will be illuminated.
When torque fall below 250 ft/lbs, oil is dumped from the prop dome and the springs drive the prop to feather.
What are the low pitch stops?
The lowest blade angle that can be achieved. The angle is 13 degrees in the air and 7 degrees on the ground.
This improves the utilization of reverse and shortens the ground roll on Landing.
How do you conduct an Overspeed Governor Check?
1)set power to 1500 prop RPM
2)Hold test switch to TEST.
3)Advance the Powerlevers until props stabilize between 1520 and 1610 RPMs
4)Continue to hold the TEST switch and advance the power. Torque and Temp will rise but not Props
5)Reduce the power to 1500 RPMs and release the TEST switch
Igniters?
There are two and you only need one to start.
What is Auto-Ignition?
When armed, the igniters will fire if Torque goes below 500 ft/lbs, IGNITION light will illuminate
What are the starter positions?
-Ignition and Engine start
-Starter only
What hapens when you turn the starter on?
-Starter rotation
-Turns ignitors on
-Turns on Standby Boost Pump
-Desensitzes HEDs
-Limits opposite GEN output to <400 amps
What is the procedure for a hot start?
-Condition Levers OFF
-Starter switch to STARTER ONLY
-Starter cool down for 30 sec
Starter limits?
.
What is the temp limit for starting?
1000c for 5 sec
What is the normal oil pressure range?
90-135 psi
When does the OIL PRESS light illuminate?
60 psi
What should you do if oil press is in between 60-90 psi
-This is an abnormal condition. Just reduce torque to 2000 ftlbs and continue.
