What is the purpose of Brunnstrom's? |
It is movement therapy for hemiplegia, use of synergy patterns to organize the CNS. |
How many stages are there and what are they? |
1- no volitional movement 2 - appearance of basic limb synergies, beginning of spasticity 3 - synergies performed voluntarily, spasticity increases 4 - spasticity begins to decrease. Movement patterns are not dictate solely by limb synergies 5 - further decrease in spasticity is noted with independence from limb synergy patterns 6 - isolated joint movements are performed with coordination 7 - normal motor function is restored |
What are the flexor and extensor synergy patterns? |
What are some positive and negative effects of spasticity? |
Positive - maintain muscle tone
Negative - inhibits/impairs joint movement, increased risk of contractures |
What are some techniques for sensory stimulation? |
Stretching, tappin, stroking, pressure, warmth |
