What is pulse pressure?
the difference between the systolic (higher) and diastolic (lower) numbers of blood pressure
What is the significance of pule pressure?
Measures cardiac output
30-40 mmHg <30 indicates decreased cardiac output |
What is a pulse deficit and how is it assessed?
Occurs if the apical heart rate is faster than the radial pule rate
some of the heart's contractions are ineffective in producing cardiac output that reaches peripheral extremities |
What aclosure re the 2 normal heart sounds?
S1 "lub" closure of the mitral and tricuspid valves and begining of systole
S2 "dub" closure of of the aortic and pulmonic valves and beg of diastole |
What is the S3 heart sound?
ventricular gallop
immediately after S2 common in CHF and mitral regurgitation |
What is the S4 heart sound?
atrial gallop
occursimmediately before S1 common in patients who have left ventricular hypertrophy and coronary artery disease |
Whe doing an assessment on a patient with a cardio dis, what do you assess the skin for?
cyanosis-decreased tissue oxygenation
pallor- (deficiency ofcolor esp face) anemia erythema- extremities with venous congestion and edema |
