A coil |
The A, or athwart ship, coil has loops in the vertical force and aft planes. The function of the A coil is to produce a magnetic field caused by ship-induced magnetization. |
M coil |
The M, or Main, coil encircles the ship in a horizontal plane, usually near the waterline. The M coil produces a magnetic field that counteracts the magnetic field produced by the vertical permanent and vertical induced magnetization of the ship. |
FP-QP coil |
The FP-QP coil is used primarily to counteract the magnetic field produced by the ships longitudinal permanent magnetization, and it is sometimes used to provide some compensation to supplement the M coil for vertical induced magnetization. |
FI-QI |
The FI-QI coil is used primarily to counteract the magnetic field produced by the ships longitudinal induce magnetization. |
