What is a draw Sheet

A draw sheet or turning sheets may be placed under the residents who cannot help with turning lifting or moving up in bed

Foot drop

Is a weakness of muscles in the feet and ankles that causes problems with the ability to flex the ankles and walk normally

What are hand rolls

Hand rolls are cloth-covered or rubber items that keep the fingers from curling tightly

Orthotic device or orthosis

Is a device that helps support and align a limb and improve its functioning

What is a partial bath

A path that is given on days when they complete bed bath tub bath or shower is not done this includes washing the feet hands underarms and perineum. Should be done everyday

Why are back rubs important

A back rub can help a resident relax and it can increase comfort and circulation

How should you perform a back rub

Place hands on each side of upper part of the buttocks use a full palm of each hand make long smooth upward strokes and with both hands moving along each side of the spine

When should Nail Care be given

Should be given when nails are dirty or have Jagged edges and whenever it has been assigned

Why should a nursing assistant handle a residents hair very gently

Because hair thins as people age pieces of hair can be pulled out of the head while combing or brushing it

Pediculosis

Medical term for an infestation of lice

Safety razor

Has a sharp blade which comes with a special safety casing to help prevent cuts this type of Razor require shaving cream or soap

Disposable razor

Require shaving cream or soap it is discarded in Sharps container after use

Electric razor

Is the safest and easiest type of Razor to use it does not require soap for shaving cream do not use this razor near water and use a small brush to clean afterwards

When shaving a resident what two things need to be done

1 soften the beard with a warm wet washcloth on the face for a few minutes before shaving then lava the face with shaving cream or soap


2 hold skin taut and shave in the direction of hair growth

Artificial teeth, nursing assistant must wear gloves when handling dentures. denture brushes should not be placed on contaminated surfaces and Dentures should be stored in a denture cup labeled with the residents name and room number and not removed from the residence room

Fracture pan

Is a bedpan that is flatter than a regular bedpan when using the handle should be toward the feet

Should be positioned with the wider end aligned with the residents buttocks

2 make sure the resident has non-skid Footwear on and fastened securely
