The Call to Adventure
Odysseus us asked to join the Greeks, including Menelaus and Agamemnon to venture to Troy, where Nestor has kidnapped Menalaus's wife, Helen.

Hero leaves the known for the unknown world
On his boat, Odysseus, ruler of Ithaca, sets sail for Troy. Upon arrival, he aids his fellow Greeks in a 9-year battle with the Trojans.
Belly Of the Whale (the point of no return; hero is "trapped" or "committed")
Odysseus and a cohort of his soldiers enter the gates of Troy within a giant horse they built as a "gift". At night, they plan to exit, open the gates, and let in all the other soldiers. Their strategy is effective and victory is achieved.
The Road of Trials (#1)
Departing Troy, Odysseus follows Menelaus, then Agamemnon, since Aggie sacrificed to Athena and this is a good omen for safe passage home.
Road of Trials (#2)
After sailing many days, Odysseus and his hungry crew land on an Island paradise. In a cave, they find bread, cheese, and mutton to eat. But this place is the home of Polyphemus. Odysseus uses his smarts to escape, but by blinding the Cyclops, Poseidon is enraged and vows to keep Odysseus lost.
Road of Trials (#3) / Supernatural aid
Stopping to see King Aeolus, Odysseus is given a bag of winds (from Zeus is fighting with Poseidon), which will help Odysseus get home. But when Odysseus falls asleep, his men open the bag. Oops.
Meeting with the Temptress
Circle's island is their next stop after a terrible storm nearly battered them senseless. (Thanks a lot Poseidon). Odysseus's men were turned to pigs by Circe.
Meeting with a Goddess
Also, in this case, Circe, who is an immortal who agrees to help Odysseus depart, though it takes her a year.
Atonement with Father / Apotheosis
Entering a dense fog, Odysseus and his remaining companions reached the land if the dead, to find Tiresias, who tells him that if he reaches home, it will be alone and unknown.
Apotheosis
Odysseus is helped by Circe. His crew begin to wonder if he is a god in disguise, with the luck he has.

The sirens tempt the men with their beautiful songs. Odysseus stuffs his men's ears with wax and ties himself to the mast.

Odysseus and his crew manage to get past Charybdis and Scylla, but a terrible storm wrecks the ship and drowns many of the men. The survivors begin to doubt him.

Near dead, Odysseus arrives on the island of King Alcinous, to whom he tells his tale. The King fast-tracks Odysseus's return to Ithaca

Disguised and advised by Athena, Odysseus lands at Ithaca.
Sharing the Boon
His son, Telemachus, is let in on the secret of his return. He is awed and prepared to help his dad retake their estate.

When, disguised as an old beggar, Odysseus dines in his own home, Alcinous throws a stool at him, but Odysseus doesn't even flinch. He sits in the corner unnoticed.

Penelope calls for him, he proves his real identity, and they conspire to set a trap for the suitors.
Master of two worlds, part three.
Odysseus, full of the boon of perseverance, longing for home, and great skill multiplied by the goddess, shots the arrow straight through the rings of the twelve ax handles. Father and son kill the suitors.
Freedom to live
Even though Penelope sees him, she cannot believe it is her Odysseus before her, until he tells her of the Olive Tree, from which he carved their bed twenty years ago. At last, "All the past and the future melt into the present joy."
