EQ PR2 Environmental Tobacco Smoke Control

-prohibit smoking in bldg

-profit smoking outside except designated area 25ft away from bldg fenestration

-residential indoor smoking ONLY after meeting contamination standards

EQ1 Enhanced Indoor Air Quality standards

OPT 1

A- entryway systems: install permanent 10 feet along in primary direction of travel; can include grates, grilles, rollout mats

B- interior cross contamination prevention: exhaust spaces where hazardous gases are used (garage, housekeeping/laundry, copying, printing)

C- filtration: ventilation systems must meet one of following: 1. Min. Efficiency reporting value (MERV) of 13 or more; 2. Class F7 or higher filter performance.

D- natural ventilation design calcs: system design employs strategies in CIBSE Applications Manual

E- mixed mode design calcs: also adheres to CIBSE mixed mode calculation.

OPT2 additional IAQ strategies

A- exterior contamination prevention: minimize entry of pollutants into bldg

B- increased ventilation: increase ventilation rates 30% above EQ PR1

C-co2 monitoring: monitor within breathing zone 3-6ft

D-additional source control and monitoring

EQ2 Low emitting materials

Assessed the emissions of BOCs into the building interior (everything within waterproofing membrane)

VOC Budget: weighted average calculation to show that the majority of products comply.

EQ3 Construction Indoor Air Management Plan

Air management that addresses the following:

-during construction follow Sheet Metal and AC National Contractors Association

-if permanently installed hvac units are used during construction, use MERV 8 filter; replace all filters prior to occupancy

-prohibit use of tobacco products and 25ft from entrance

EQ4 Indoor Air Quality Assessment

OPT 1 Flush out

Path 1 before occupancy: 14,000 ft3 / ft2 of outside air

Path 2 during occupancy: min of 3,500 ft3 / ft2 prior to occupancy; 14,000 during.

OPT 2 Air testing

Conduct IAQ testing consistent with EPA protocol in breathing zone 3-6ft

EQ5 Thermal Comfort

Meet requirements for tc design & tc control

THERMAL COMFORT DESIGN

OPT 1 ASHRAE standard 55-2004: Design to meet thermal comfort conditions for human occupancy. Environmental factors are temp, thermal radiation, humidity, airspeed. Personal factors are activity, airspeed.

or

OPT 2 ISO and CEN Standards: Design HVAC system and bldg envelope to meet requirements of ISO 7730 2005 (Ergonomics of Thermal Environment) or CEN Standard EN 152151: 2007 (Indoor Environmental Input Parameters for Design and Assessment of Energy Performance of Bldgs)

THERMAL COMFORT CONTROL

-provide comfort ctrl for 50% individual spaces; group ctrl for all shared multi-occupant spaces

-thermal comfort ctrl for at least one of the following: air temp, radiant temp, air speed, humidity.

EQ6 Interior Lighting

OPT 1 Lighting control

-90% individual occupant spaces provide individual lighting control with at least three lighting levels

and/or

OPT 2 Lighting quality with characteristics such as:

-color rendering index (CRI) of 80 or more

-rated life of at least 24,000 hr

-indirect lighting

EQ7 Daylight

Select one of three options

OPT 1 & 2 Computer simulation calculation

-specific daylight illuminance levels have been achieved via annual computer simulations

or

OPT 3 Measurement

-achieve specific illuminance levels for % of floor area

EQ 8 Quality Views

-Achieve direct line of sight to outdoors via vision glazing for 75% of floor area.

-Areas with views must have two of the following:

1. multiple lines of sight to vision glazing at different directions 90 degrees apart at least

2. views include at least two: flora, fauna, sky; movement; objects 25 ft from exterior

3. unobstructed views located within 3x head height of glazing

4. view factor of 3 or more, defined in "Windows and offices: A study of office worker performance and indoor environment"

EQ9 Acoustic Performance

Address the following:

-HVAC background noise

-sound transmission

-reverberation time

-sound reinforcement / masking system

ANSI / BIFMA e3-2011

A furniture sustainability standard developed by a joint committee of stakeholders using consensus process described by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

ASHRAE 55-2010

Standard that defines the range of indoor thermal environmental conditions acceptable to a majority of occupants, but never accommodates and ever increasing variety of design solutions intended both to provide comfort and to respect today's imperative for sustainable bldg.

ASHRAE 62.1-2010

Standard that specifies minimum vent. rates and other measures intended to provide indoor air quality acceptable to humans, minimizes adverse health effects, and is recognized standard for ventilation system design and acceptable indoor air quality.

bake-out

process used to remove airborne contaminants from a bldg caused by off-gassing furniture, paints, adhesives, sealants, carpets, wall coverings.

CO2 concentration

measurement of indoor air quality that determines safety of a space for occupancy, greater than 530ppm = hazardous

CIBSE AM10

Chartered Institution of Building Service Engineers Application Manual AM10 is a standard that defines the process for natural ventilation in non-domestic bldg

circadian rhythms

natural pattern of physiological & behavioral processes that are timed to a near 24hr period

Greenguard Certification

Program that gives assurance of products designed for use in indoor spaces meet strict chemical emissions limits

Minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV)

Rating system that ranges from 1(low) to 16(high) for filters made for a mechanical bldg ventilation system that filters particulates and airborne contaminants out of the air.

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS)

Series of symptoms connected with phenomenon of building occupants feeling sick when they are in a building and recovering when they leave.
