Zhu Yuanzhang

Founder of the Ming dynasty. He enthrones himself as the Hongwu (1368-1398) emperor. He believed in the teachings of Confucius and wanted a China where the people were self sufficient and the economy was based on agriculture.

Hongwu

The title of the first emperor in the Ming dynasty. Given to Zhu Yanzhang. (1368-1398)

Yongle

The son of Hongwu, Zhu Di, when Zhu Yunwen ascended the throne as the Jianwen Emperor and began executing and demoting his powerful uncles, Zhu Di found pretext for rising in rebellion against him. He became the Yongle emperor in 1360-1424. To strengthen the economy, he fought population decline by reclaiming land, utilizing the most he could from the existing labour force, and maximizing textile and agricultural production.

Zheng He

A eunuch commander of china, he led six expeditions o Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433.

Wanli

led 3 wars against the Mongols, the Japanese, and the Yang Yinglong Rebellion. After this, he went on strike and stopped going to his morning meetings.

Zhengde

A corrupt, womanizing, emperor. He abused his system and was considered one of the most irresponsible emperors in history. He spent most of his time in brothels.

Deng Maoqi

Led a rebellion after killing a local magistrate. I took about 50,000 trained soldiers to put down Deng's rebellion and execute the so-called "King Who Eliminates Evil" in the spring of 1449.

Li Zicheng

a Chinese rebel leader who overthrew the Ming dynasty in 1644 and ruled over China briefly as the emperor of the short-lived Shun dynasty before his death a year later.
