Style: Pays special attention to the hands, wanted to show how hard they work, how sad their lives were. Main colors used: green and brown as a way to convey that these people had to dig into the ground to gather their food.


Other: made lithographs of this work, sent to Paris to his art dealer friend. Believed this painting would make him successful. People did not receive this work well, says he doesn't understand color and that it is too dark.
