How does water get to the leaf? |
Through the roots and stem by osmosis. |
How does oxygen get to the leaf? |
By diffusion from the air. |
What kind of light do plants use and what does it use it for? |
- UV light - Energy |
Why are most leaves broad? |
It gives them a bigger surface area for light to fall on. |
What other adaptation of the leaves helps to create a larger surface area for diffusion? |
There are air pockets/spaces. |
What does chlorophyll do and where is it found? |
- Absorbs light - In the chloroplasts |
What is the purpose of guard cells? |
They open and close the stomata to regulate gas exchange. |
What do plant veins do? |
Bring lots of water in the xylem to the cells of the leaves and removes the products of photosynthesis in the phloem. |
During the day what do plants do to get energy? |
Photosynthesis and respire. |
During the night what do plants do to get energy? |
Respire as there is no light. This is so they don't die. |
What is a limiting factor? |
A limiting factor is a part of the photosynthesis reaction that is in short supply. This prevents the rate of photosynthesis from increasing further. |
Describe this limiting factor graph and why it is happening. |
As the light intensity increased, the rate if photosynthesis increased. However, at one point it plateaus. This happen because the plant ran out of other factors needed for photosynthesis such as carbon dioxide, low/high temperature or light. |
Describe this limiting factor graph and why it is happening. |
As the carbon dioxide concentration increased, the rate if photosynthesis increased. However, at one point it plateus. This happen because the plant ran out of other factors needed for photosynthesis such as water, low/high temperature or light. |
Describe this limiting factor graph and why it is happening. |
As the temperature increased, the rate of photosynthesis increased until, at one point, it reached a peak and then began to decrease despite a temperature increase. This happened because photosynthesis is controlled by enzymes. At around 40°-50° the enzymes become denatured and die. Therefore stopping photosynthesis. |
Name some useful features of greenhouses. |
Hydroponic growing system; Propane burner; Thermostatically controlled vents; Artificial lighting; Irrigation system. |
