Momentum
A vector quantity defined as the product of an object's mass and velocity.
Impulse
The product of the force and the time over which it acts on an object.
Difference between Momentum and Impulse.
Momentum is what the object has and Impulse is whats done to cause change.
Law of Conservation of Momentum.
The total momentum of all objects interacting with one another remains constant reguardless of the nature of the forces between them.
Perfectly inelastic collisions
Two objects stick together and move as one mass after the collision. Momentum is conserved but kinetic energy is not conserved.
Inelastic Collisions
Colliding objects bounce and move separately after the collision, but the total kinetic energy decreases in the collision.
Elastic Collisions
Two objects return to thier original shapes and move away from the collision separatly. Both momentum and KE are conserved.
