Barriers to LGBT healthcare

Staff knowledge and understanding of LGBT health issues- GPs dont know what to ask them
Delayed attendance and reduced screening - attitudes, communication andknowledge – mean that LGB people delay seeking help for a healthproblem and are less likely to access routine health screening. This includesbreast and cervical screening for women, and presenting with early signsof prostate or anal cancer for men. Delays in provision of care - For trans people, the biggest barriers include waiting times for surgeryfor gender reassignment and inappropriate general healthcare. |

Employment Equality (SexualOrientation) Regulations 2003

These Regulations prevent employers refusing toemploy people because of their sexual identity;they also protect workers from direct abuse andhomophobia from colleagues.
