Address the emotion either expressed or implied.
Affective --

-"You seem angry when you say that."

Moves beyond the client's words and presents information in a new light.
Complex-- (aka Paraphrase)

- "I am just not sure I want to follow the doctors health plan for me"

-"You don't trust your doctor."

Reflect both parts of the person's ambivalence.
Double-sided Reflections--

-"On one hand you don't want to graduate at semester, on the other you can't stand another day of school."

- NEVER USE BUT

Overstated what the person has said, often increasing in the intensity by pressing on the absolute or resistant element. May cause a person to back away from the position -- Then space has been created for the individual to consider alternatives.
Amplified--

- "I can't remember the last time I was happy."

- " WOW, you can't remember when you were happy?"
