How is the lighting operated on Vlocity units?

Saloon lighting


Saloon lighting is train lined and can be switched on or off from any cab.


The lights in each car can be independently switched on or off using local lighting switch located in the number 1 electrical cabinet.


Drivers cab


The driving cab lighting consists of two fluorescent lamps and three adjustable spotlights.


These lights are controlled by a switch on the drivers console.


External lighting


The headlights are controlled by an OFF/CITY/CNTRY and a LO/HI beam switch located on the drivers console.


Note: The country lights are not to be used in the metropolitan area and it is recommended that they are not used during daylight hours.

If all auxiliary generators fail, what affect will it have on the lighting?

If no auxiliary diesel generators are operating, the following emergency lighting will be supported by the batteries for emergency operation:


- All external lights supported automatically for at least one hour


- Five saloon lights, two fluorescent lights and one toilet light

How is the PEAS alarm activated?

A passengers emergency alarm system PEAS is provided for passenger safety/security reinforcement.


It is designed to alert a passengers emergency to the crewmembers.


Red PEAS pushbuttons are fitted in:


- each vestibule


- Wheelchair area


- Low-level position in the disabled persons toilet


- Waist rail level position in the disabled persons toilet.


When a PEAS button is depressed for three seconds an audible alarm will sound in the drivers cab as well as the car number indication light will be illuminated on the fault display panel.


The PEAS function is train lined.

How can you deactivate a cab without losing the passenger information display information?

The system is reset every time the cab is activated, clearing all displays and route information.


To prevent the PIDS system being reset, press the PIDS Bypass button (located above the PIDS unit) before vacating the cab. This will hold the cab active signal, and the PIDS state will be retained.

How are PIDS operated?

The drivers control unit has a numeric keypad and is located on the left-hand drivers console to enable the driver to input the route number, as found on the train prep docket.


The number is to be entered at the originating departure point.


When a particular route number is entered, it will display the final destination on the external displays while the internal displays automatically update to display the next station on the route according to distance travelled.


To totally reset the unit at any point, the cab must be deactivated and reactivated, this will clear any information that was previously entered.


Hold E and CE to reset without deactivating the cab.

How can the driver receive communications from the intercom (IC) feature?

When the intercom light illuminates, pick up and use the handset only.

The air conditioning units are roof mounted and powered by 415VAC.
