How might the depths of depression and the energy of mania both contribute to creativity?
-Depression is the response to a past or current loss. A profound event that sends someone into a state of major depression may cause that person to search for an escape from their emotional pain eventually giving light to an artistic form of expression that sets them free, allows them to turn their internalized state into an externalized state.
-It seems that mental disorders spawning into amazing art are not uncommon. It seems when someone is suffering from such a painful mental condition that art is a form of self-induced therapy. Perhaps artist use their creation as a means of uncovering repressed feelings or thoughts or even facing certain fears. Art is a form of free association that reveals someone's internal state. When their art becomes popular, it's almost the ultimate cure-similar to group therapy. A famous artist who reaches millions of fans, gives light to the group therapy concept of enabling others to share share the same feelings.
According to the social-cognitive perspective, why are women more vulnerable to depression than men are?
Social-cognitive perspective emphasizes the interaction of our traits with our situation.

Women's vulnerability to stress first occurs during adolescence (social interactions)when maturation and new stressful experiences occur. Women's traits (cognition) are expressed in the way they react to these stressors, which occurs in an interal state. This internal state is expressed with depression, anxiety, reduced sexual desire, etc. The result of this reaction, unreleased stressors that go unrelieved or expressed, is major depression. Males experience that same adolescent stressors, but their reaction is external, such as alcohol abuse, violence, antisocial conduct, lack of impulse control, etc.
Social cognitive perspective states that women's reaction to a stressful environment is internal, the resulting behavior is depression.
