    Coyote: A Short Story

wasn’t at all like that. She was extremely strict, ever since I entered her house. She tells me everyday that I am worth nothing and I have nothing to look forward to in my future. I wake up every morning at five just to finish my chores before school. Then, after school, I cook dinner, do the laundry, take care of the animals, and tend the garden. I’ve always wanted to please her, show her that I am worth it. It turns out I was not good enough. I’ve given up on trying to impress others, I am creating my own path. Elvira has as always told me that these people never cared, it seemed they were concerned about me. My best friend, Gina and I are the youngest ones of the group. We have been friends since we were nine years old, she has also been neglected by her parents. We are neighbors and she has always helped me through the rough patches of growing up. Gina glanced over at me, “Terminar de comer, tenemos que darnos prisa si vamos a ponernos al día. Y limpia tus zapatos.” I look down at my shoes, they’re covered with dust as if I rolled in dirt. A jacket I have never worn before, my hands covered with blisters. My pants are rugged, ripped, and torn. I only have $500 dollars left in my pocket. I would prefer to spend my money in America rather than here. As I got up, Coyote entered the room. I stare at the scar across his face, seeing my fear in front of me. I fear every day that if I were to be caught, would I get a scar like that? Are they brutal to all immigrants that…

A family tree, like an actual tree, works and grows by all its linked branches, but what happens when a branch goes missing? My family is figuring out that answer. Gina Schmidt, also known as Mom, was reported missing February 15 3:33p.m. in Centralia, Washington 2014. Neither do you.” This situation shows how some groups of people think that instead of just enjoying being the bud of some light hearted jokes, they want the comedian to change based on their views. Which their views mean its ok to mock someone else’s religion as long as its not “theirs”. Which stated well by Dara that they wouldn’t even know whats funny about it. This also shows how within most humor theres a part of the superiority to it, since the audience laughs at the stupid people who…

Context Over the course of the semester, I have been placed in Hopewell Junior School. I worked with an intervention specialist, Gina Ottlinger. Mrs. Ottlinger works with both seventh and eighth grade students, specializing in math and reading intervention, and inclusion in all content. Have you ever wondered how technology works or if is even good or bad for the people that use it or even for our society? Como estas? They mean the same thing, so why do we define people based upon languages that they speak? If someone were to speak English and Spanish to you on and off while having a conversation, what would you do? In a short poem by Gina Valdes called “Where You From,” does just that. She doesn’t define herself as just American or just Mexican, in fact, she is stuck in the middle. “Soy de aqui y soy de alla from here and from there born in L.A. del otro lado y de este creci en L.A.” (Gina…
