Pronator teres
Superficial Layer
Origin: Ulnar Head- coronoid process. Humeral Head- Medial epicondyle of humerus Insertion: MIddle of convexity of lateral surface of radius Innervation: Median Nerve Function: pronates and flexes forearm |
Flexor carpi radialis (FCR)
Superficial Layer
Origin: Medial epicondyle of humerus Insertion: base of 2nd metacarpal Innervation: Median Nerve Function: flexes and abducts hand at wrist |
Palmaris longus
Superficial Layer
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus Insertion: distal half of flexor retinaculum and apex of palmar aponeurosis Innervation: Median Nerve Function: flexes hand (at wrist) and tenses palmar aponeurosis |
Flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU)
Superficial layer
Origin: Humeral Head- medial epicondyle of humerus. Ulnar Head- olecranon and posterior border via aponeurosis Insertion: pisiform, hook of hamate, 5th metacarpal Innervation: ulnar nerve Function: flexes and adducts hand at wrist |
Flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS)
Intermediate Layer
Origin: Humeroulnar head- medial epicondyle (common flexor origin and coronoid process). Radial Head- superior half of anterior border Insertion: shafts of middle phalanges of medial four digits Innervation: Median Nerve Function: flexes middle phalanges at proximal interphalangeal joints of middle four digits. acting more strongly, it also flexes proximal phalanges at mcp joints |
Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
Deep layer
Origin: proximal 3/4 of medial and anterior surfaces of ulna and interosseous membrane Insertion: Medial Part- bases of distal phalanges of 4th and 5th digits. Lateral Part- bases of distal phalanges of 2nd and 3rd digits. Innervation: Medial part- ulnar nerve. Lateral part- anterior interosseous nerver, from median nerve Function: Medial part- flexes distal phalanges 4 and 5 at distal interphalan joints. Lateral part- flexes distal phalanges 2 and 3 at distal interphalangeal joints. |
Flexor Pollicis Longus (FPL)
Deep Layer
Origin: ant surface of radius and adjacent interosseous membrane Insertion: base of distal phalanx of thumb Innervation: Ant interosseous nerve, from median nerv Function: flexes phalanges of 1st digit (thumb) |
Pronator Quadratus
Deep Layer
Origin: distal quarter of ant surface of ulna Insertion: distal quarter of ant surface of radius Innervation: ant interosseous nerve, from median nerv Function: pronates forearm. deep fibers bind radius and ulna together |
