Ratio
A ratio compares two quantities. There are three ways to write a ratio: 8/7, 8:7 and 8 to 7. Ratios that appear as improper fractions are not rewritten as mixed numbers. However, you can rewrite ratios in lowest terms.

Rate
A rate is a ratio that measures units having different quantities. A rate shows how quantities with different units are related to each other.
Unit rate
A unit rate is a rate with the second quantity is one unit. Unit rates allow you to compare rates easily. 60 miles:2 hour = 60/2 = 30 miles: 1hour = 30 miles per hour. 30 miles per hour is the unit rate.

Equivalent fractions
Equivalent fractions name the same number.
Equivalent ratios or Equivalent rates
Equivalent ratios and equivalent rates name the same ratio/rates. You find them the same way you find equivalent fractions
Proportion
A proportion is a statement that shows two ratios that are equal or proportional. Proportions can be written in number or in words. For example, 1/2 = 3/6. “One is to two as three is to six.”
Property of cross products
If two ratios form a proportion, then the cross products are equal. If the two ratios have equal cross products, then they form a proportion.
Cross product
In a proportion, the product of one numerator and the other denominator is a cross product. The cross products in a proportion are equal. For example, 2/3 = 6/9 2*9 = 18 and 6*3 = 18.
