Friar Lawrence's Mistakes

Improved Essays
In the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, there is one person to blame That person, I believe, is Friar Lawrence. Now i’m not blaming the whole tragedy on him. It’s just that some of his actions caused certain things to happen which eventually lead to the huge tragedy. For example, one of his many mistakes was agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet. At first when Romeo asked this of him, he was against it because of how twenty-four hours ago he claimed to be madly and unconditionally in love with Rosaline. As he so stated,”Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, so soon forsaken? Young men's love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes”. He could've stuck to this and refused to marry them. Instead Romeo kept insisting.

He was to blame because he tried to help Juliet run away with Romeo by giving her the sleeping poison to wake her after 48 hours she found out that Romeo was dead and she decided to kill herself too. This happened because, Romeo didn’t receive the letter that Friar Lawrence sent him. The letter was talking about the plan that Friar Lawrence set up for both of them. “Stay not to question, for the watch us coming; come, go, good Juliet, I dare no longer stay.” (Page 272)…

Friar Lawrence had hoped that the good of their love will reverse the evil of the hatred between the feuding families. He thought it will solve the problems between the Montagues and the Capulets, seeing how Romeo was a Montague and Juliet was a Capulet. Instead, Friar just complicated the situation for himself and the couple. He was the adult there; therefore, he should have known the right and wrong in the decision of marrying the two. He should have known that this would not settle the dispute.…

I believe that the fault falls more towards Friar Lawrence. I say this because he is the one that came up with the plan for Romeo and Juliet to follow through that became a disaster. He gave Juliet the poison that made her seem cold and dead which lead to Romeo thinking that she actually was dead that then made Romeo’s decided action to kill himself. Now because Romeo killed himself, it caused Juliet as well to also kill herself when she woke up from the poison. Therefore, they each ended up dead at the end due to suicide.…

One reason I blame Friar Lawrence for the death of Romeo and Juliet is that he was somewhat encouraging them to be together anymore isn't trying to stop them. also, he was the one that married them, without talking to any of their parents for everything. And according to the New York Times- do we need to refine adulthood, It talks about how a kid is an adult when they're 18 and no younger which means Friar Lawrence should have talked to one of her parents to get consent because she was only 13 and she wasn't old enough. Also the fact that he was the one that came up with the idea for Juliet to fake her own death and he's the one that gave her the potion, and so if he didn't give her the potion she wouldn't have faked her death and then Romeo wouldn't have thought she was dead and then Romeo wouldn't have killed himself. In the last thing, I blame for The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet fun is Lord Capulet.…

Also, he was very trusted by both Romeo and Juliet that he kept the plan to himself from the beginning to the end. Overall, Romeo and Juliet was a very confusing play and script by William Shakespeare. I think that Friar Lawrence should be blamed for the death because it was his responsibility that the letter should have reached Romeo about the plan. If Romeo, would have got the plan, then the ending wouldn’t have been so dramatic or…

Throughout the play, the Friar acts as Romeo’s mentor and, despite his authority, doesn’t alarm Romeo of his ill-fated decisions. Friar Lawrence says, “Miscarried by my fault, let my old life Be sacrificed some hour before his time Unto therefor of severest law”(5.3.55-56). This quote shows the point in the play that he admits to his wrongdoings. If Friar Lawrence…

The secret marriage, unsuccessful delivery of an important message, and risky substance in Juliet’s possession were the major errors performed by Friar Lawrence within this tragedy. Lastly, Romeo’s character traits sent him into a snowball effect which ends in him being a victim of himself. He makes impulsive decisions, such as obtaining a poisonous substance to kill himself once gaining knowledge of Juliet’s placement in the tomb. Overall, the blame of this tragic romance cannot be planted upon any specific identity within this…
