Louis Glavis accused Ballinger of turning over valuable public coal lands to a private syndicate for profit, he took the evidence to Pinchot who didn't like Ballinger and Pinchot took it to the President. He didn't believe him so Pinchot leaked it to the press and then was discharged for insubordination. However congress exonerated Ballinger and Progressives supported Pinchot and Taft lost supporters of Roosevelt completely
