What is the procedure to detect a defective multiunit jumper cable?

Remove the multiunit jumper cable between the leading and the second locomotives and test the leading locomotive to determine which locomotive has failed. This test would be a simple power test, testing for amps when throttle notches are applied.


Where there are more than two locomotives in the consist continue towards the rear of consist removing the multiunit jumper cables and testing individual locos until the defective loco is found.


If after removing all jumper cables and the rear loco has been tested and no loco appears to be defective the fault will most likely be in a jumper cable and one of the multi unit receptacles.


The testing procedure is:


- inspect the multi unit receptacles for bent pins


- The cable may be considered defective
