What fault lights will you see if there is another cab operative?

Emergency brake on, major minor and 2nd level and minor

Another cab operative

How do you rectify an another cab operative light?

Physically inspect each cab for a controllers key or cleaners key, and check fault lights to see if other can operative status light is illuminated (will be extinguished in activate cab)

Insert your key into each to try and rectify the fault, as you are energising and de-energising the other cab operative alarm system

Train stable and restart if nothing else, otherwise disabled

If there is a another cab operative faulty cab in the trailing, what can we do to get the train out of the section?

Propel from trailing cab with a competent employee at the front

Door control

How do you conserve battery?

Reverser in neutral, mck off, headlights off, cab lighting off, saloon emergency lighting if safe to do so, ensure all cab doors are closed so step lights don't drain the battery

What do you do to resume an emergency brake that will not release?

Check for obvious reasons first, then operate the safety loop bypass switch and ISOLATE the VICERS

Check for activated DER

Stop at next station

How do you deal with a FDCL at a station?

Attempt to close the doors again

Re release doors and make a PA to clear the doors or the train will delay

Log call to TC and make another PA to ask people to press the PEI to help from being further delayed

Report broken seal in TMM to TC

How long maximum should the HV presence light take to illuminate on train startup?

30 seconds

What do you do if a pantograph fails to raise?

Check voltmeter

If no voltage, check battery box isolation switch

If it is isolated, report it to TC

If it isn't isolated, you are disabled

If you have under 90v, you are disabled

If you have above 90v, check panto buttons and attempt to raise from another cab

If they fail to raise after that, check the 3 way panto switch is in auto, panto CBs 1&2 set

Raise manually if TC gives permission

What do you do if a panto fails to lower?

Will have to manually lower and isolate the panto via train stable and turning the three way switch to manually lower and isolate

If it fails to lower during train stable, have to manually crank it down via the crank switch

How do you isolate a panto? And do you need special permission to do so? Why?

Stable the train and note that the pantos have lowered

Go to the T car and turn the three way switch to the manual lower and isolate

Turn the crank handle anti clockwise to lower

Submit TMM

You need special permission from TC, because isolating a panto means that you are running in a degraded mode as you have lost your high voltage and low voltage system, only have battery power for that unit : HIGH RISK

When there is a loss of overhead, will the pantos drop?

No as the electric panel motor will stay mechanically locked in the raised position

Where is the crank handle?

In the pelmet, T car, right of saloon door 4

Where is the T car circuit breaker panel?

In the T car saloon to the left of no 2 door

What is on the trailer saloon MCB panel?

Tachy unit

BCU

Panto 2

Panto 1

Aux inv 2

Aux inv 1

What does a major, major 2nd Level and Minor fault light indicate?

That a circuit breaker has tripped

What do you do if you have a traction fault?

You will get a traction fault light and a 1 or more traction eq fault light

The TCU will self isolate the fault, but you want to get rid of the 1 or more traction eq fault light

Go into each cab and find the 1 or more traction eq fault light by activating the cab, turn that cabs traction isolate switch to isolate to extinguish the light

The traction fault light will remain illuminated only where the fault is

What do you do if your holding brake is releasing with no traction power?

Check your pantos and that you have a steady blue

If normal, push holding brake button for a max of 2 seconds or until receive effort is recieved

How do we determine if a bogie had been isolated, and then locate? What is procedure once located?

You will get the 1 or more bogies isolated fault light in the cab

Go check the brake indicators outside for a green one, indicating that the brakes have released

Find out via TMM or TC the reason for isolation, either reinstate or run as bogies isolated speed ( up to 60 normal, over 60 = 10 km under)

How do you know if you have sticking brakes and what do you do to attempt to rectify them?
